Starting February 24, 2025, Apple Pay is now supported on third-party browsers such as Chrome, Firefox, Mozilla, and Edge. This update to our integration allows even more shoppers to use one of the world’s leading payment wallets, without any additional merchant action to enable this storefront functionality.
Introduced at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June 2024, the iOS 18 release unlocked Apple Pay on the web for all browsers. This has been a long-standing limitation to the payment wallet, which previously required that shoppers must be using Safari, Apple’s default browser, in order to even see the Apple Pay buttons on the cart, checkout, and product detail pages. This change gives customers and guests the opportunity to use Apple Pay as a payment method, no matter what browser they’re using, provided that they meet the additional shopper requirements.
After clicking the Apple Pay button in a third-party browser or on a non-macOS device, shoppers will be prompted to scan a code with their iPhone, iPad, or another compatible device running iOS 18 or newer. Once payment is completed on their device, shoppers are redirected to the order confirmation page. It’s that easy!
We’ve updated our Apple Pay integrations across the entire BigCommerce platform to leverage this exciting functionality, no matter which payment provider you are using to access Apple Pay on the storefront.
Supported payment gateways for Apple Pay include:
Access Worldpay
Adyen
Authorize.net
Bank of New Zealand
Bolt Payments
Braintree
Chase Merchant Services
Checkout.com
Cybersource
Mollie
Moneris
Nexi XPay
PayPal
Stripe
TD Online Mart
